Prof. Dr. Gerd Gigerenzer

Prof. Gerd Gigerenzer is director of the Harding Center for Risk Competence at the University of Potsdam, director emeritus at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin, and founder and shareholder of Simply Rational – The Institute for Decision Making. He was previously a professor at the University of Chicago and John M. Olin Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Virginia School of Law. He is also a member of the German Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina) and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society. He holds honorary doctorates from the University of Basel and the Open University of the Netherlands, and is a Batten Fellow at the Darden Business School of the University of Virginia. Prof. Gigerenzer has received numerous awards, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Award for Best Journal Article in the Behavioral Sciences, the Association of American Publishers Award for Best Book in the Social Sciences, and the German Psychology Award and Communicator Award. His award-winning popular science books such as “Gut Feelings” and “Risk Savvy” have been translated into 21 languages. He trains managers, U.S. federal judges, and German physicians in the art of decision-making and dealing with risk and uncertainty. The Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute has named Gigerenzer one of the 100 most influential thinkers in the world.
